A Bellevue man is dead of an apparent homicide, suspect recovering after officer-involved shooting

BELLEVUE, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — One man is dead after being shot by his roommate, while the suspect is in critical condition at a regional hospital after sustaining injuries in an officer involved shooting early this morning in Bellevue.

According to a press release from the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office and the Idaho State Police, officers from the Bellevue Marshal’s Office, Hailey Police Department, and Blaine County Sheriff’s Office all responded to a report of a possible homicide at 6:03am in the 300 block of Fifth Street.

When the deputy Bellevue marshall arrived, the alleged suspect fired one shot in the direction of the deputy marshall, the officer returned fire with his duty weapon, critically injuring the suspect, according to the Idaho Mountain Express. The injured suspect was flown to Saint Alphonsus hospital in Boise, where his condition is unknown as of 6pm, Thursday.

While authorities have not released any identities in the shooting, according to a neighbor, the victim of the homicide was 40-year-old Josh Takacs an employee at Oasis Stop and Go in Bellevue.

There are no further details being released at this time and the Critical Incident Task Force, led by the Jerome County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the officer involved shooting. The Blaine County Sheriff’s Office and the Idaho State Police are conducting a joint investigation related to the homicide according to the press release issued Thursday afternoon.

No officers were injured in this incident. Additional information will be released when it becomes available.

The Blaine County Sheriff’s office wants to reassure the public that there is no current threat to public safety.
